Our own Mud Pie Kitchen!

After being inspired by what we saw earlier in the week we wanted to set up a Mud Pie Kitchen of our own.
We put a table outside and put a bucket of compost and a pot of herbs next to it.  Then a collection of bowls, some water and kitchen utensils and, hey presto, a place to get messy and creative!
First the children put some compost into a mixing bowl.  Then picked some herbs and mixed them into the compost before adding water.
Then they used a couple of small bowls and ramekins and a tin to make the pies.
Girl spent quite a bit of time stirring the water in the jug.  Boy was very interested in picking herbs and flowers to mix in.  They decorated the pies with plants and stones on the top.
They played for quite some time and we plan to come back to this activity again and again!  The pies have taken pride of place on the step in the garden for a few days.

  2. This is all kinds of fabulous. I love posts that inspire folks to head outside and play. We have a mud pie kitchen at preschool, and it is always a busy, humming hive of activity.
